Crocs are extremely comfortable and can be worn almost anywhere.
But should you actually do it?
There are some things about crocs you need to know because they might be creating more problems for you down the line.
You just don’t know it yet.
Of course they can still be worn and I actually do recommend them for some activities.
But I want to show you the dangers of these shoes, where you should wear them and some other important things you need to know about crocs.
Keep reading for some cold hard truths about croc shoes.
Why Are Crocs Still a Thing?
First and foremost, I do not know why crocs are still a thing but almost 18 years down the line and business is booming.
Trust me, I’ve been wondering this exact question for years, but that’s beside the point.
The thing with crocs is that you either love ’em or hate ’em.
There is no in between.
And it seems that those who love them don’t care about the looks but love them for their comfort and convenience they provide.
But should most people who own crocs actually be wearing them the way they have been?
Well I’m going to say no and I’ll explain why below.
1. They are not an all day shoe
Sadly, as much as people love crocs, they are not made to be an all day shoe.
So if you’re using them for 6 hours a day or more, you’re doing a lot of harm to your body and that needs to change right now.
These shoes are not designed for long periods of use and should be kept to a minimum.
Examples of short trips are: to the store, to the park, to pick up the kids from school, to do yard work, etc.
2. They were first created as a boating shoe
You see, crocs were designed as a boating shoe initially.
They provide immense slip-resistance so you won’t fall off the boat, and if you did, the holes allowed the water to leave the shoe.
Basically, they weren’t designed for lounging, but somehow these ugly ass shoes managed to find their way into the general population.
And it looks like they’re here to stay.
3. They work best for aquatic activities
Crocs are great for water activities because it provides the slip-resistance, comfort and support of normal shoes but without the worry of getting them wet.
Good aquatic activities are water fighting, chilling by the pool, walking around the pool, boating, going to the beach, etc.
4. Only two types of people need to use crocs everyday
Crocs provide great arch support for those with high arches and that’s why doctors even recommend these for people with high arches.
The other people are those who suffer from excessive edema.
Edema is simply a medical term for swelling, which mainly happens in the feet and ankles.
Well these shoes are only recommended for people with these two conditions.
Anyone else cannot wear them for extended periods of time and must cut their usage short if they want to avoid problems.
5. Crocs do not have enough ankle support
If you’re thinking of wearing crocs as your normal everyday shoe, think again.
Crocs do not provide enough ankle support and can cause a number of problems later down the line.
With no ankle support, toes tend to grip the shoe to keep the body balanced, but this can cause tendinitis, toe deformities, nail problems and calluses.
6. Warning signs about crocs
There are literally signs in some places of the world, warning people with crocs to be careful in areas like escalators and hopping on and off trains.
These places are known for getting crocs and flip flops stuck and causing injuries.
No not crocs as in crocodiles, croc shoes!
These shoes are not only dangerous for your health and posture, but pose tripping hazards in the real world too if not careful.
7. They’ve sold more than 300 million pairs
These fugly ass shoes have somehow racked up over 300 million sales since they hit the shelves in 2002.
That is a lot of shoes and the reason why you see people wearing them in almost every corner of the world.
It just goes to show that a simple idea can prove successful when you have the solution to peoples problems.
And in this case, comfort, lightweight and convenience.
8. They do business in 30 different languages
Ever wondered why your trip to Hong Kong involved sales of croc shoes in different stores?
Because the owners of crocs are smart and have branched out to many different countries all over the world.
That’s how they’ve sold so much shoe in a short amount of time.
So Should You Not Use Crocs at All?
They are good for water activities but can still be worn for other things in your life, you just need to decrease the amount of time wearing them.
I recommend crocs to be worn for a maximum of 3 hours.
Anymore than that and you risk messing up your posture, tendinitis, deformities and other related diseases.
And I just can’t let that happen to you.
So as a rule of thumb:
Wear these shoes for any activity you want, just no more than 3 hours a day.
I guess you can say I’m pretty biased when it comes to writing this article.
I’m not a huge fan of crocs but I will definitely support those who wear them and will not judge in anyway, shape or form.
Okay maybe a little, lol.
Anyway, crocs should not be worn for long periods of time due to the risks involved with toe deformities, tendinitis, etc.
But that doesn’t mean you have to stop wearing them completely, as there are still lots of places to wear them.
Well thanks for reading and I hope you will still rock your crocs like you’ve always done, just in a safer manner!
Cheers and have a great day.
