The Adidas Harden Stepback Basketball Shoes look amazing, but as some of you already know, looks can be deceiving. A perfectly-good looking shoe can be one of the worst performers.
Today I will be doing extensive reseratch on this shoe to see what we are really dealing with.
I know basketball shoes in and out, I know what makes a great basketball shoe, and I want to see if this is a winner or a fat loser.
Keep reading my Adidas Harden Stepback review for my unbiased opinion.
At a glance
Product Name: Adidas Harden Stepback
Designed for: Basketball
Expected lifespan: 8 months – 1.5 years
Price: $50 – $100
My Rating: 4.5/5
The Adidas Harden Stepback’s are really good shoes for the price. The claims from Adidas about being grippy are true and they perform well on the court for basketball, weightlifting, and even casual use. I like what they’ve done with the colorways as they look awesome and catches the eyes and compliments from others.
What is the Adidas Harden Stepback All About?
Adidas say these shoes are grippy and keep you comfortable.
They’re lightweight and built for breathability, allowing the wearer to stay comfortable and cool for as long as possible.
There’s nothing worse than trying to play basketball in hot feet!
It features a wide forefoot for a natural running experience as you race up and down courts, and a flexible midsole for better mobility and speed.
The ergonomic lacing system is better than traditional lacing and allows for optimal adjustment for the perfect wrapping of the foot.
This promotes a form-fitting and customized experience.
Now that we have all the features out of the way, it’s time to look at how well they actually perform on the court!
Some customers say they have amazing grip and perform incredibly well.
The low-top design allows for fast, quick movements without being bogged down.
Which is a great choice for lightweight players that’ll be doing lots of running around.
The traction is high thanks to the supergrip rubber outsole, making them good for indoor and outdoor use.
Other people love how snug they are. They really keep your feet cool, pain free and comfortable for an entire game.
Comfort is a big deal for basketball because without comfort, you’ll constantly be worrying about your feet and can’t focus on the game.
The colorways are immaculate. Adidas have done their research to see what the customers want and it has paid off big time.
Everyone seems to love their purchase and the color combinations look awesome.
Some even use them as everyday shoes.
The Adidas Harden Stepback’s can also be used for weightlifting thanks to the high cushioning abilities and ankle support.
It’s hard to say how long these shoes will last as there isn’t much feedback regarding the longevity.
However, a lot of people say they are super durable and seem like they will last a long time.
When you take into consideration the cheap price tag, I would not expect them to last for an extraordinary amount of time or anything.
If used strictly for basketball or weightlifting then sure, they will last long because they aren’t being used that much.
They would probably last about a year, maybe more, if used for b-ball and weightlifting.
However, use them as an everyday shoe, they will wear down quicker.
I would expect them to last 8 – 12 months, maybe more.
Who knows, they might surprise me.
I bought a pair of Nike basketball shoes for $65 that I use everyday, and so far they have lasted 9 months!
They are still alive and kicking today. I’ve even mowed the lawns in them at least 10 times.

Are the Adidas Harden Stepback true to size?
The good news for those that are thinking of buying, they are indeed true to size.
For the most part, everyone likes their purchase and says they fit perfectly.
However, those with wide feet have something else to say.
They are a little snug for people with wide feet but there is a way to beat this.
Simply order 1/2 a size up for a comfortable fit.
For normal feet: true to size
For wide feet: go 1/2 a size up
How does the quality compare to the price?
When you look at how comfortable these shoes are and how durable people find them, it’s pretty clear that the quality is up there.
They might not last 3 years, 2 years, or even 1 and a half years (although not proven yet), but they are definitely worth their price tag.
They have immense traction for acceleration, deceleration, lateral movements, and possess good cushioning.
They perform for basketball, weightlifting and everyday/casual wear.
For a shoe worth $50 – $100 that is really good quality.
I have no complaints regarding the durability and they they are easily worth their price tag.
In fact I would go as far to say that they are probably worth more.
The negative reviews
There’s some discussion about these shoes being counterfeit, which is probably true as there are definitely counterfeit shoes sold on Amazon.
However, there’s a good reason some people may have received bad/fake ones.
They are straying away from the official Adidas seller and buying from shady sellers.
Keep in mind that when a specific size or color isn’t available, Amazon will give you a list of other sellers.
These sellers are not Adidas and that’s when you risk buying from a shady dealer, resulting in a bunch of counterfeits and negative reviews.
Someone else got an empty shoe box (hahaha, sorry but had to laugh).
Even though it’s sad that some buyers received fake shoes and someone received an empty shoe box, this is good news.
It means no one is complaining about bad performance or how low quality the shoe is, which backs up Adidas’ claim about being grippy and comfortable.
Pros and cons
- High quality for the price
- High performance
- Versatile. Good for basketball, weightlifting, casual
- Very comfortable
- Durable outsole with immense gripping abilities
- Lightweight and breathable
- Some shoes may be counterfeit

Do I recommend them?
Yes there are counterfeits out there, and yes you can avoid it.
If there isn’t a color that you like available, look for something else that is.
Sure it might not be as good as the one you wanted, but at least you’ll be getting a genuine, authentic Adidas shoe!
These are immaculate for the cheap price tag.
They are well under 100 bucks and will last a fairly long time.
They are versatile and will keep your feet cool throughout the day if required.
The ratings are a little lower than other shoes (4.3/5) but the majority of those negative reviews are receiving fake shoes.
However, I have told you how to avoid that and now it is up to you to make your final decision.
Personally I love them.
So do I recommend the Adidas Harden Stepback Basketball Shoes?
My final opinion
Basically what you see is what you get when it comes to the Adidas Harden Stepback’s.
What they look like in the pictures is what they look like in real life.
Adidas have created a cheap, winning basketball shoe for those that can’t fork out $200 on something better quality.
Are they going to last years?
Will you get your moneys worth?
That’s an easy yes.
And that’s the Adidas Harden Stepback shoes in a nutshell.
Well that concludes my review.
