Altra Women’s Torin 2 Review – Good For Wide Feet

What makes this shoe better than other running shoes in the same price range?

Is it even that good, and how well does it perform?

I review shoes just like this on my blog and some shoes don’t perform up to expectations.

It means I have to do extensive research before coming up with my own conclusions.

So that’s what I intend to do with this Altra Women’s Torin 2 review.

Enjoy.

Bottom line:

These would’ve been some pretty good shoes for people with wide feet, as I have covered everything in this review.

However, sadly it looks like this product is cancelled, or at the very least there are only a few left.

The Altra Torin 4 are a much better alternative.

What is the Altra Women’s Torin 2 Running Shoe?

It is a road running shoe designed for women and features 2 different color options: zink pink and parrot red.

The FootShape technology increases the size of the toe box to allow your toes to spread out naturally, rather than being constricting.

This increase stability and speed when you run.

The A-Bound cushioning also gives more energy return with every step and balances out the weight from front to back for low-impact landing.

Then there is the FootPod outsole. This special technology maps the bones and tendons of your feet for a more natural run.

It is a very lightweight shoe compared to other Torin versions and the extra toe space is praised by the community.

But more on that in a second.

Key Features

FootShape Toe Box – Increases the toe box for extra wiggle room, stability and speed

A-Bound Cushioning – This is a responsive cushioning and it’s found on many other shoes. Basically, it promotes energy return which helps you keep running for longer

FootPod Outsole – The FootPod outsole is one of the best outsoles in the world. It actually mimics the shape of your bones and tendons which increases flexibility and a more natural running pattern

Lightweight – This shoe only weighs 7.8 ounces! That is actually a lot lighter than most shoes I have reviewed on this blog

Mesh upper – The mesh upper increases ventilation and allows your feet to breath which eliminates discomfort and/or irritation

What I Like

I like the breathable mesh upper.

It allows for extended running sessions without your feet getting hot.

Also the fact that this shoe is based on a minimalist design but keeping all the essential features there.

For example, there is only 4 main features but they are put together so well that they allow the shoe to perform just like any other shoe.

I also like the FootPod technology. It makes for a more natural run and doesn’t stop your feet from bending.

What I Don’t Like

I don’t really like how these are the same features found on other versions of the Torin line.

I have reviewed other Torins in the past and they all have these features.

Although the biggest difference would be the A-Bound cushioning, which gives more energy return.

Things You Should Know

Everyone Loves the Added Toe Room

Users absolutely love the extra toe room of this shoe.

Some people want the added width in the toe box and not anywhere else in the shoe, and this works so well.

So if you have normal feet but a wide forefoot, you will probably love this just like everyone else does.

Zero-Drop Technology

The zero drop technology basically means the forefoot and the heel are at the same height.

Some people love this feature and some dislike it, but it all comes down to personal preference.

There are even reports of the Altra Torin 2 eliminating Achilles Tendinitis for good!

That’s due to the Zero-Drop feature.

Lots of Cushioning

These shoes are incredibly comfortable thanks to the A-Bound cushioning and that’s another reason people love them so much.

Most actually love them because of the comfort factor, and it helps eliminate foot pain, knee pain, hip pain, etc.

They Run 1/2 Small

There are reports of users ordering their normal size and being too tight.

However, the extra toe room makes it bearable.

If you want maximum comfort, you will need to order 1/2 bigger than your normal size.

Looks Kind of “Ugly”

The extra toe room makes the shoes look like clown feet, so keep that in mind if you decide to purchase this shoe.

Although in my opinion, comfort and support always outweighs appearance.

It’s not like you’re trying to win a fashion contest, you’re just trying to run and be comfortable at the same time.

If you have a wide forefoot then you would know how painful it is for your toes to tear through the sides of the shoe.

Well the extra toe box eliminates that problem for good.

Who Should Wear this Shoe?

Those who have a wide forefoot would absolutely love these shoes and find them comfortable.

People with no wide forefoot will find them comfortable too, it just means you will need to order your normal size rather than sizing up.

Common uses are:

  • Working 12 hours shifts
  • Walking
  • Running
  • The gym
  • Treadmill
  • Weight lifting

They are pretty versatile shoes considering they’re designed for running.

Again, it’s the comfort they provide which makes people use them for other things too.

Do I Recommend this Shoe?

These shoes are absolutely amazing for people with wide feet, especially a wide forefoot.

The comfort allows people of all shapes and sizes to wear them comfortably and there are even reports of eliminating hip pain, knee pain and foot pain for good.

They are a little pricier than other shoes but that’s because they’re of quality with an enlarged to box for free movement.

So do I recommend these shoes?

I would but it looks like Altra has stopped making them and there are only a few left.

However, I have the perfect alternatives below.

Alternative/Similar Shoes

The Altra Instinct 4.5 is so much better, as it includes the same features plus more. It’s made from the same company but includes the latest technology.

It’s also good for wide feet!

However, the Altra Women’s Torin 4 Shoes are my #1 alternative.

Similar to the Torin 2 but much more upgraded, they don’t look as ugly and have more color options.

My Final Opinion

I would have liked these shoes but sadly Altra has stopped making them and there are only a limited amount left.

It won’t be long before they’re a complete goner.

That’s not to say that they aren’t incredible shoes for wide feet because they definitely are.

And I definitely recommend them.

At the time of writing this article there are only a few left but I don’t know how long for.

You can check for availability here.

Otherwise if you want something much more upgraded and not going to die down anytime soon, I highly recommend the Altra Torin 4 Shoes instead.

Well that concludes this article.

Please let me know in the comments below what you think of these shoes.

Cheers and have a great day.
