Are They Good for Running?

Before we get into whether or not they perform for running, lets break it down one-by-one and see how each aspect performs.

Comfort is #1 priority. Without comfort, there’s no point in wearing them.

These shoes have proven the comfort factor.

They’ve got some of Asics finest cushioning as well as social proof with the thousands of reviews, which is a huge indicator.

They feature reverse lugs to make running up and down hills a breeze.

These lugs offer immense traction on slippery and rugged terrain.

The thousands of social proof also show that the outsole has some of the best traction you could ask for, especially at this price range.

I could go on and on about the different features and why they make this shoe perform so well.

But I’m just going to cut to the chase.

They have tremendous trail running abilities and few flaws.

Of course being so cheap there will be some things wrong with them.

Fortunately I only found one – they are not waterproof.

Are They Waterproof?

Not necessarily.

Well, not by the book anyway.

They’re not waterproof but they are not moisture magnets either.

Many trail running shoes absolutely suck on the trail as they catch the mud and moisture a little too much. They get wet so quickly.

But that is not a problem with the Asics Gel Venture 6.

This is because the upper is not entirely mesh. They have protective areas all over to provide that extra water-resistance, WHILE providing air flow.

So are they good for running?

They’ve got tremendous trail running abilities. I couldn’t find anything wrong with them to be honest other than the lack of waterproofing.

Which is inevitable in a running shoe anyway, as you need the ventilation to help your feet breath, keeping you cooler and running for longer.

Other Things They Can Be Used For

People say they are comfortable for all day at work, and they stay supportive that you don’t want to take them off when you get home.

Some say they are super comfortable right out of the box. Often times don’t even need breaking in.

Another popular description is “they’re like walking on clouds”.

You just need to go through the thousands of customer feedback to see how comfortable they really are.

They are versatile running shoes which is nice to see considering the cheap price tag.

Other popular uses:

  • Walking
  • Working
  • Running errands
  • Shopping
  • All-day standing
  • Weightlifting
  • Any casual activity

The Difference Between the 5 and the 6

Here’s my review on the Asics Gel Venture 5.

They are both similar, but there are some changes.

The 6 has minimal materials which you can see in the “features” section, This is done to decrease the weight.

Meaning less padding.

However, this does not impact the performance. It works in their favor.

They’re able to put more attention in the oustole to give it amazing trail running abilities.

The outsole on the 6 is wider for more stability, and they have incredible traction on damp surfaces.

So what makes these shoes different?

Gel Venture 5: More versatile. Can be used for pretty much anything.

Gel Venture 6: Better for trail running. The traction and design means you don’t have to worry about puddles and mud too much

They Weren’t Lying When They Said High-Abrasive Outsole

The outsole is hands down the best feature.

It’s just so strong.

Most people easily get 500 – 600 miles out of them, and they still have plenty more miles in them.

I’m not even kidding. Asics wasn’t lying when they said it was high-abrasive rubber.

This special technology is placed in weak areas to increase durability.

Actually the cushioning is going to wear down quicker than the outsole.

Or the material tears and rips first.

But that’s not the point. The point is that the outsole is the last to go and Asics did not exaggerate this claim.

It’s not uncommon to easily get 500 miles out of them.

Some reported 750 – 1000 miles.

For a shoe that costs $50, that is astounding numbers.

They are built to last.

There are far more reports of lasting a long time than those saying they did not last.

The average lifespan is about 1 – 3 years depending on how often you wear them.

Although I’m leaning more towards 2 years.

Just bare in mind that you might lose cushioning around the 1-year mark if worn everyday.

But still for $50 that is fricken amazing.

That’s 13 cents per day!

Negative Reviews

There’s reports of some shoes being low quality and only lasting a few months.

This is going to happen when buying shoes online.

Those that break apart easily have a cheap feel to them, meaning they are likely fakes.

There are fake sellers everywhere online.

That’s why if you buy through Amazon or other platform, make sure you buy from authentic sellers.

Asics official Amazon name is “Visit the ASICS Store”.

As long as you stick with them you will be fine.

If you start clicking around and choosing different sellers, then yes, you will probably buy a knock-off.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are they true to size?

Yes. They have a 89% “fit rate” on Amazon, which is very high.

Do they fit wide feet?

Yes! They have wide sizes available for those that have wide feet. You could probably feel my excitement behind the screen because so many brands skip this important detail.

Do they have support?

Yes. The gel heel and sole makes it comfortable for all arch types, including flat feet.

How long do they last?

1 – 3 years. Or 500 – 1000 miles.

Are they lightweight?

They have emphasized the most important features and cut out the rest, helping cut down on weight.

So yes, they are lightweight.

Who Are They For?

In my opinion they are best for trail running.

Of course they can be used for other things like general wear (running errands, weightlifting, etc), but I think the Gel Venture 5 are better suited for that.

If you strictly want to head for the trail and put in miles on rugged terrain, the Gel Venture 6 is for you

But if you want versatility with some trail running/hiking here and there, the 5 is the better option.

Price and Where to Buy

Do I Recommend?

Do I ever?

These are hands down the best affordable trail running shoes that I have seen to date.

They are so comfortable, they have wide sizes, they have arch support, and the outsole lasts longer than everything else.

Asics have done a great job at minimizing features to make the current features the best they can be.

I’m a huge fan and don’t see anything wrong with them.

They easily last a year of frequent use.

They’ve got all the technology to make a great trail running shoe.

And the cons aren’t even that bad.

They are actually more water-resistant than other trail running shoes, making them perfect for damp terrain or surfaces where puddles are present.

There is so much to love about these shoes that I have no choice but to recommend them.

Highly recommended!

Verdict: Perfect and Cheap Trail Shoes

These perform best on the trail.

They can also be used for other activities but I prefer the Venture 5 if you want versatility.

The Gel Venture 6 has won the hearts of thousands of loyal customers and will continue to rise year after year.

No seriously. People keep coming back to buy more, that’s how much they love them.

So that’s my final opinion.
