Nike Air Max 2017 Review

Product name: Nike Air Max 2017

Type of Shoe: Running

Best for: Running, walking, all-day comfort

Bad for: Weightlifting, sports

Price: $160 – $200

What is the Nike Air Max 2017 Shoe?

Unfortunately there wasn’t much information I could find regarding the features of this shoe, but I did manage to dig some things up.

The Nike Air Max 2017 features a Flymesh upper for a lightweight and a ventilated running experience.

The foam midsole is soft and cushiony, and specially designed to wrap the arch of your foot for ultimate comfort.

The full length Max Air unit provides cushioning underfoot so that hard landings feel soft and springy.

Nike then finishes this shoe with a durable rubber outsole to grip various different surfaces.

Basically, this shoe wraps your foot in plush cushioning with springy resilience for impact absorption.

But does all of this really happen or is it just an exaggeration? Lets find out.

Does It Fit True to Size?

As some of you may know, Nike shoes run small which happens to be true with the Air Max 2017’s.

If you normally shop with Nike, you’ll be okay ordering your normal size.

Otherwise go 1/2 size up if coming from a different brand.

Also there is no information regarding the width of the shoes.

Usually I can find people saying that it fits good for wide feet or it does not, but in this case, I cannot 100% say with confidence.

So if you have wide feet, beware buying this shoe as it may be too narrow for you.

Do They Have Arch Support?

These shoes are designed for neutral feet.

This means it’s going to be a hit or miss for other arch types.

Some neutral shoes are good for flat feet, and sometimes neutral arches can house high arches too.

But again, there’s a lack of information regarding this so I cannot say with certainty that they have arch support.

Although one reviewer did say that he has high arches and they fit him nicely.

Do They Perform?

So this is the most important part of the article, whether or not these shoes perform.

Because they are designed for running, I’m going to look at the running capabilities first.

They can be used on the treadmill, on the road, the pavement, long distance and short distance.

People that use them for running have no complaints or issues with them.

So yes, these shoes are okay for running and that’s due to all the features and comfort they provide.

Others state that they are good for walking and standing a lot, especially for someone on their feet all day.

However, just like most running shoes, they should not be used for sports or any type of weight training.

There is just not enough stability for horizontal movement patterns such as: basketball, tennis or volleyball, and even weightlifting.

So the only things they are good for is running, walking and anyone on their feet all day.

What I Like

I definitely like the color options available.

There are about 13 different colorways for both men and women.

I also like the different features implemented into the shoe to make it more comfortable.

My favorites are the Flymesh upper and full-length Air Max unit for increased underfoot cushioning, which is always a good way to soften hard landings.

But what about all the bad things? Well there are a lot of them to be honest.

What are the Bad Points?

First and foremost, the quality is not up to scratch with customers expectations.

Nike have discontinued these shoes and all that’s left are knock-offs, so the quality isn’t as good as it used to be.

There are reports of them lasting 3 – 6 months before the Air Unit loses it’s cushioning and becomes mute, and sometimes even less.

However, that’s really all there is wrong with this shoe.

And it’s a huge let down because they are good in every other way.

It has the features, it has the comfort, it has the support AND the aesthetics.

But it doesn’t have the quality, and when you’re paying nearly $200 for a pair of shoes, they better be damn-near perfect!

So unfortunately I do not recommend these shoes and have a better alternative instead.

The Nike Air Max 2017 Alternative

I’m a huge fan of Nike and I don’t like when they discontinue their shoes and don’t tell anyone.

These are listed on Nike’s official Amazon page but sold with other vendors, so they are clearly replicas but they don’t tell you that.

The good news is that Nike are still #1 and I have the perfect alternative.

Welcome the Nike Air Max 270!

Nike Air Max 270

These are the same price as the 2017’s but are still being released from Nike and the quality isn’t in question.

They are perfect for general wear, walking, running, weightlifting, and especially for walking around all day.

In my opinion they are much better looking and will definitely last much longer than the 2017’s.

Pros and Cons of the Nike Air Max 2017 Shoes

Pros

  • Good features
  • Comfortable
  • Good for running, walking and standing all day

Cons

  • Discontinued
  • They are being sold as replicas
  • The knock-offs are much lower in quality than the originals

Final Verdict

Unfortunately Nike has discontinued these shoes and we will most likely not see the real ones again.

They are worth about $200 which is a complete rip off when you look at how long they last (3-6 months).

That is shocking!

And I would expect Nike to at least state that they are replicas on their official Amazon product page, but they do not.

To me that is a huge let down on Nike’s part.

Do they perform? Absolutely, but only for the short time they’ll be good for.

Will they last? No way. You’ll be lucky to get 6 months out of them.

But if you still like these shoes and think I should shove my review where the sun don’t shine, then by all means knock yourself out and give them a try.
