Is the Brooks Addiction Walker a Good Walking Shoe?

As some of you might know, Brooks are a master at creating running shoes…the complete opposite of this sneaker.

Brooks Women's Addiction Walker Walking Shoes

The Brooks Addiction Walker is actually a walking shoe.

I had no idea that they create walkers as well, so this is completely new to me.

Their running shoes are simply amazing and definitely perform.

But whether or not they can build a great walking shoe, only we will know as we dig through this review and find the truth.

Enjoy my Brooks Addiction Walker review.

Better Than Expected

Bottom Line:

The Brooks Addiction Walker doesn’t seem like much of a shoe until you dig further.

They offer immense comfort, they are proven to perform for walking and they stand the test of time.

They are known to remove joint pain, back pain, knee pain, heel pain, and pain caused by foot problems.

Because of these reasons I have no option but to highly recommend them.

The BioMoGo DNA cushioning is so comfortable as it adapts to your speed, weight and stride while deflecting impact from joints, bones and other problem areas.

Brooks claim that they are still dedicated to the run, but they mostly want to make people active and stay active.

Some shoes like this walker allow those that can’t run to also be active and healthy.

It includes an MC pod for an efficient, balanced and stable position, and Extended Progressive Diagonal Rollbar for maximum support.

Finding the Right Fit

Brooks Women's Addiction Walker Walking Shoes 2

These shoes are very true to size.

83% of customers say they fit exactly as they wanted them to, while others found them too small or too large.

However, that is just a small minority who probably didn’t know their right shoe size in the first place.

The good news is that they cater for almost every walker out there.

They have normal sizes, wide sizes for people with wide feet, and even narrow sizes for those that have narrow feet and ankles.

This is a breath of fresh air because most of the time it’s hard just to find wide size options.

To get the right fit, simply choose narrow, normal or wide feet along with your size and you should get a great fit.

Does they Perform?

I think the biggest question on everyone’s mind is do they actually perform considering Brooks are a running company that creates running shoes.

Well lets dig a little deeper and see what we can find.

These shoes contain some of the best features to eliminate back pain, knee pain, leg pain, joint pain, heel pain, plantar fasciitis and more.

People that couldn’t walk anymore are walking every single day because of how much support and comfort they offer.

Some customers title them as the best walking shoe ever.

They use them every day for fitness walking, daily walking, walking on the treadmill, walking around all day for their job, and more.

The possibilities are endless.

They are definitely good for walking, especially when you consider all the pain and discomfort they remove!

Arch Type

The Brooks Addiction Walker has a 12mm heel-to-toe drop, or midsole drop depending on what you want to call it.

This provides the comfort in your arch.

The lower the millimetres, the better it is for low arch or flat feet.

So a zero-drop shoe is going to be very comfortable for flat feet.

However, there is not going to be enough support for a higher arch.

So what arch support does 12mm offer?

Medium arch, low arch and flat.

Even though they are designed with these arch types in mind, some people claim they fit their high arches comfortably.

At the end of the day it comes down to the person and their own personal preference.

What someone might find uncomfortable, you might find comfortable and vice versa.

Looking at the online feedback it appears that they are comfortable for all arch types.

How Long Do They Last?

Something else we need to look at is how long they are going to last.

Some say they last about 6 months, others say 9-12 months.

To be honest it all depends on how often they are worn and are they actually being looked after.

This means washing them frequently, letting them air dry after every use, etc.

Is 6 – 12 months a long time for a pair of $80 walking shoes?

It most definitely is, especially when you see the comfort factor and the pain they eliminate for a some people.

What I Like

I like the strength of the full-grain leather upper, the pearly white colorway and the fact that they are extremely comfortable.

A shoe that removes pain and discomfort is a big winner in my eyes, and you can never put a price on that.

Also pearly white shoes are a fashion hit these does, especially among the younger community.

White shoes go with almost any outfit, making these perfect for casual use.

The full-grain leather also puts it ahead of others that does not have this feature.

The Bad

Typically walking shoes offer ventilation with mesh uppers, stopping your feet from getting hot and sweaty.

I guess this is a bitter-sweet moment as the leather offers strength and mesh breaths, but lower in quality.

So keep in mind that your feet may get warm or hot but at least they’ll last a long time and can be worn in the rain.

There are also some complaints about the traction not being as good as the company claims.

They use them in the workplace and have slipped.

Although no one was hurt and there’s not a lot of people complaining about it, it is still there and it does raise some red flags about the traction.

If you work in a restaurant or kitchen, where you need maximum traction, these probably aren’t the best idea.

That’s really the only biggest downsides I could find.

Others say they found there’s to be uncomfortable and had to send them back.

The Price & Where to Buy

On Brooks official website they cost about $120 but sometimes has deals.

The other place (which is my recommendation) is due to their fast shipping, free deliveries and 30-day return policy.

Amazon sell them for $69 – $199 depending on the size, color and seller.

Pros and Cons

  • Very comfortable walking shoe
  • Lots of positive feedback from the community
  • Available in narrow, neutral and wide sizes
  • Good for the workplace, running errands or walking all day
  • Prevents and sometimes eliminates pain completely

  • Traction not good for restaurants and kitchens
  • Minimal ventilation

Do I Recommend the Brooks Addiction Walker?

There are far more pros than cons, and the negatives aren’t that big of a deal.

If your feet tend to get hot, this is going to be a problem as it will cause some discomfort.

But for those that don’t care abut it, it has proven to perform and last for anyone that buys them.

The traction is definitely going to be a problem on slippery surfaces like a kitchen so I do not recommend them for these areas.

But for anyone else that wants them for daily walking, running errands or simply for casual use, they are highly recommended.

They sit at a great price, have many different width sizes and durability to go with it!

Final Verdict

I didn’t think Brooks would be able to pull this off considering they are a running shoe company.

However, it makes sense because they were once a “jack-of-all-trades” shoe company many moons ago.

They have still got it and I like how they created a marvelous shoe for anyone that needs a comfortable walking sneaker.

The negatives aren’t a deal breaker as there are far more positive aspects, and I highly recommend them due to all the reasons outlined in this article.

Well that concludes this Brooks Addiction Walker review.
