New Balance 680v6 Review

Looking for a running shoe on a budget? Want something that you can count on for your daily adventures? You’ve come to the right place.

New Balance 680 V6 Running Shoe

New Balance shoes have been doing well for many years and the popularity is getting better and better every year.

Does that mean every one of their shoes is going to perform and exceed expectaitons?

Certainly not.

Actually just by looking at this shoe I thought it would be better than it really is.

It just further proves that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover.

Shoes that look amazing sometimes tank and shoes that look bad are sometimes the best.

Read my New Balance 680v6 review for the full rundown.

Product Name: New Balance 680v6

Designed for: Running

True to size: Yes

Expected lifespan: 6 – 18 months

Price: $60 – $100

My Rating: 3.9/5

This shoe is good but not great. The good points are the comfortable sock-like construction, versatility, and the wide outsole for stability. The materials are average for the price and there are reports of only lasting a couple of months. However, this because of fake sellers out there which you need to be aware of. Buy from authentic sellers only and you will be fine.

So What is the New Balance 680v6?

This shoe is actually good looking and caught me by surprise.

I’m not a big fan of New Balance but this shoe has certainly caught my attention.

First lets look at the features.

It includes ACTEVA midsole cushioning that promotes flexibility and versatility.

This shoe also has immense shock absorption through the ABZORB technology and compression resistance.

The engineered mesh material promotes ventilation so your feet don’t get hot.

It is also lightweight thanks to the EVA foam midsole.

The molded sockliner hugs your foot to provide a glove-like fit, keeping your feet snug without restricting movement.

The entire upper consists of a no-sew construction, meaning the upper is knitted as one piece rather than patches stitched together.

What Type of Shoe Is It?

The New Balance 680v6 is a running shoe that emphasizes comfort and performance.

Many testers say that they are great for running.

They strike a perfect balance between comfort, support and weight.

This allows the shoe to perform for most people and doesn’t lack in any areas.

Some say they are easy on the legs and feet, and help ease pain in the knees and hips.

It’s a game changer for most people and in some cases they’ve changed their life with all the comfort and latest technology.

People use them for morning running, short distance, long distance, on the pavement, road running, and much more.

They are designed for everyday running and perform incredibly well for it.

Can Be Used for Other Things

Another common use is walking and casual use.

They are comfortable enough to use for casual walking, daily walking, fitness walking, and more.

This is due to the sock-line construction, lightweight midsole, and mesh upper, which promotes flexibility.

Walking requires a full range of motion which means not every shoe will provide all day comfort.

The New Balance 680v6 is actually good for walking and many reviewers love them for standing all day in their job, and going about their day.

Other common uses are: walks in the park, brisk walks, jogging, walking to work, etc.

However, if you decide to use them for the gym, I have no doubts that they work.

The Highlights

There are a few things that stood out to me as I glance over this sneaker.

Firstly it’s the ABZORB technology that softens hard landings.

This makes it perfect for a heavyset or someone that tends to hit the ground hard as they run, or when they walk.

They’ve also got a thick and wide rubber outsole.

The wide outsole adds a little extra stability that helps wearers stay upright and avoiding injury.

They are perfect for larger people and I think that’s worth emphasizing.

Another highlight is the molded sockliner that makes it much more comfortable than sneakers without this feature.

It’s aesthetically pleasing and bound to get you compliments or looks from passerby who admire your cool looking kicks.

To be honest there are a whole lot of things this shoe has to offer, but I’ll list them all in the pros and cons section.

Before that lets talk about bad things.

What are the Bad Things?

There’s not a lot of things wrong with this sneaker, but for the sake of formation I will talk about them anyway.

Firstly there are complaints about the quality not being as good as expected.

And there’s actually a valid explanation for this.

There are about 20 claims of being low quality, but there are hundreds of claims saying they are great quality.

Those that didn’t last more than a couple months probably bought from a shady seller on Amazon, someone selling fakes instead.

Be sure to buy from official websites and authentic sellers before handing over your hard earned money.

Another common complaint was the sizing.

Some reviewers say they are too small, too big, not wide enough, etc.

Well they have a fit rate of 77%, meaning most who buy it find it comfortable and fitting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are they true to size?

Yes, in fact 77% of buyers on Amazon alone say they fit them perfectly.

Those that do not probably didn’t check the size chart and paid the price for it, literally.

Do they fit wide feet?

YES!

I would go as far to say that customers who say they were too narrow did not know about the wide sizes.

The wide sizes allow anyone with wide feet to fit comfortably as well.

Why am I excited about the wide sizes?

Because most companies create shoes for neutral feet, leaving out the rest of the population and making it difficult for wide feet individuals to find a shoe that fits them.

Do they have arch support?

There are people with flat feet saying they are incredibly comfortable, and those with high arches saying they worked great for them as well.

The arch support isn’t in question as the proof is in the pudding.

No matter what your arch type is, you should fit these properly.

How long do they last?

There’s not a lot of feedback regarding the longevity of this shoe which did raise some red flags at first.

But I know the quality of New Balance shoes and the brands worth ethic.

They usually go all out to ensure they will last the length of the price tag.

On the New Balance website they sell for $100, and about $60 on Amazon.

Kind of cheap but doesn’t mean the quality is cheap.

When you take into consideration the proven track record of New Balance shoes, the cheap price tag, the feedback from the community, it’s fair to say they they’re of average quality.

In my opinion you should 6 – 18 months out of them.

Do I Recommend Them?

I had high expectations going into this review but it turns out it’s not as good as I hoped it would be.

Although that doesn’t mean it’s a bad shoe.

It’s all about versatility with this sneaker.

They offer so much in terms of usage and performance.

They can be used for many different activities and stay aesthetically pleasing at the same time.

Versatility and aesthetics is the name of the game.

If you’re looking for a shoe that “does it all” but don’t want to fork out your life-savings, then the New Balance 680v6 Running Shoe is for you.

If you want something stronger, more durability and lasts longer, but in the same price range, you should check out the Nike Tanjun!

So do I recommend them?

Not really.

There are better shoes at this price.

The New Balance 680v6 shoes are average but nothing spectacular.

Get the Nike Tanjun’s instead.

The Nike Tanjun Running Shoes Are Much Better

Nike Tanjun

This shoe is the perfect alternative as it’s in the same price range but proven to last at least 2 – 3 years.

They are far more comfortable and stronger.

Plus they’re Nike’s, need I say more?

I classed it as one of the best shoes for the price and I still stand by that statement today.

However, stay away from it if you have high arches as there’s a lack of arch support.

The Verdict: Good For Those on a Budget

These shoes are good for those on a budget but want something that’ll last a decent amount of time.

They’re of average quality for the price and will last at least 6 – 12 months. If you’re lucky they might last longer.

It’s unfortunate because they do look like they would be better.

But that concludes this article.

Thanks for reading this review and I hope you found all the information you were looking for.
