What is a Walking Shoe?

Walking shoes are specifically designed for fitness walking.

They allow free movement and do not constrict your feet in any way, shape or form.

Every activity requires a different movement pattern.

For example: running needs a stiff shoe with stability in the front and back.

Tennis and basketball needs stability in all areas of the shoe as they require quick bursts of movements in all directions.

So what do walking shoes require?

A flexible upper for a full range of motion, comfort, cushioning and support.

Will this shoe offer all of that?

Lets find out.

What is the New Balance Men’s MW877 Walking Shoe?

It is a shoe designed specifically for walking.

New Balance wanted to create a shoe with a vintage suede/mesh upper with the latest technology, and they came up with this shoe.

It’s made with 100% mesh and suede material, allowing for lots of ventilation when walking.

It features a seamless New Balance logo and a sleek and clean look for visual impact.

The padded tongue and collar offers immense support and comfort, which I have found to be true on other shoes with this construction.

The walking strike path technology allows for a more natural walking pattern to eliminate discomfort, pain and irritation.

Add all these features together and you have an amazing shoe that performs beyond expectations.

The Features

There are lots of features for a shoe in this price range, and I want to outline everything so you know exactly what this shoe offers.

New Balance Men's MW877 Walking Shoe Side View

  • 100% suede/mesh upper for ventilation
  • Seamless logo for aesthetics
  • ABZORB midsole cushioning
  • Rubber outsole for traction
  • Walking Strike Path technology for stabilization
  • Padded tongue and collar for comfort and support

Of course there’s lots of features but the ones I like is definitely the padded tongue and collar.

I have a pair of basketball shoes with this construction, and the second I put them on I knew they were the shoes for me.

A padded tongue and collar offers immense comfort especially for someone like me who’s a heavy set (245 pounds) and need lots of cushioning to hold my weight.

I can lift weights without experiencing discomfort or pain and that’s why I stand by this feature 100%

Another feature I like is the Walking Strike Path technology.

This is good for people that are new to walking and just getting into the fitness game…so a great shoe for newbies.

But also good for experienced walkers too, as it stabilizes your foot through your natural gait cycle, a feature not found on many other shoes.

The Reviews

The New Balance MW877 holds a solid 4.4 star rating on Amazon and upwards of 4.6/5 on other online stores!

For a shoe in this price range, that is a very high score.

Most of the reviews talk about how comfortable they are.

There definitely is a lot of comfort thanks to the ABZORB midsole and allows for users to walk around all day while being as comfortable as possible.

Others love it because they’re available in wide and narrow size options!

And that’s something I like too because many shoe companies forget about wide feet people.

Some people dislike the shoe due to a lack of arch support and the boring appearance.

However, the appearance is not something to complain about since there are lots of pictures of this shoe all over the internet, so they knew what it looked like before buying?!?

Also the lack of arch support is definitely something to complain about.

Those with high arch will either need to replace the insole or get another walking shoe with high arch support.

Do I Recommend the New Balance Men’s MW877?

As you can see just by doing a quick Google search that most people who buy this shoe absolutely love it.

It has a clean but cool looking appearance.

It doesn’t scream out at you in the visual department, but when it comes to comfort and stability, it stands out.

I have done lots of research on this shoe and discovered that it really is so comfortable thanks to the ABZORB cushion material, Walking Strike Path technology, and more importantly, the padded tongue and collar.

I love this shoe for all those features.

And it’s virtually a no-brainer considering the affordable price tag.

Of course I recommend the New Balance Men’s MW877 Shoe.

No this shoe is not your end all, be all.

It’s a shoe good for lots of everyday activities and everyone else seems to love it for that exact reason.

Can you wear it everyday? Absolutely.

Can you wear it all day? Sure.

It’s a versatile shoe and can be used for almost all daily activities.

The only time I don’t recommend it is for basketball, tennis, volleyball, or anything else with a similar movement pattern.

I love this shoe for its ease of use, sleek design and rich features, and I have no issues in recommending it.

  1. Hi Brandon,  I like how friendly your website is.  Post is interesting I never have heard of shoes designed for walking or the New Balance brand.  They look cool enough though.  I’ve always thought about walking for miles on end.  I had a dream the other night about walking where i live in the the south east of England up to Scotland lol Maybe I should buy some of these and do it.

  2. Hi just so happens New Balance, is my favorite shoe very comfortable and lightweight, with a great price and great look. Your article about the shoes was very well done you left nothing on the table and your site looks great I might be contacting you in the future to purchase a pair.

  3. The one thing my man refuses to let him buy for him is shoes!  On the down-low, I’m checking out these New Balance Men’s MW877 Walking Shoes because he promised we would be going on more walks together.

He goes through shoes like crazy but, if he gets these just for walking I think they will hold up for a while.  Toe smashing is a huge issue for him but, thankfully his wide paws should be covered so, I think we’re good to go in that department too.

He may not let me buy them myself without him but, he ALWAYS listens to my suggestions.  The cons of them not being flashier and their base color pallet is a plus for him, not a minus.

    • It’s probably because he knows his style and feet, so he knows how to choose the right shoe for him.

It’s nothing personal, it’s just us guys know what works best for us.

You could get them for him and if he doesn’t like them, just use them for yourself.

  4. Wow Brandon, you really know your shoes!

How do these hold up in bad weather / puddles etc? I get that the mesh/suede exterior isn’t likely to be waterproof by default, but has there been anything added coating-wise to give them a bit of weather protection, at all?

I’m guessing they’re more a town-walking shoe designed for being on your feet all day, rather than a walk in the (gentle) hills kind of shoe? Would you have any idea what the grip’s like on wet grass?

    Thanks for the info!

    • They are mesh so water can get inside the shoe with ease, so I do not recommend them for walking in the rain.

But they can definitely be used for walking up and down hills thanks to the durability and comfort.

And to answer your last question, not it probably won’t be good for wet grass, the reason it should not be worn when walking in the rain.

Hope this answers all your questions.

  5. Seeing the description of the shoe, I mean the features coming with 100% suede for ventilation, walking strike path technology, and comfort being put into consideration by providing a collar. I was expecting to see it on amazon for some hundreds of dollars, but saw it for 74USD, via your link. Good shoe at affordable price

    • I thought so too!

That’s one thing I like about this shoe, the fact that it’s very affordable with lots of features.

      Glad you liked it, Parameter.

  6. I do incline walking on a treadmill and use running shoes. I didn’t realize walking shoes needed a lot of flexibility for walking. Would this New Balance shoe be a good fit for walking at an incline on a treadmill?

    • Hey Bob, great question.

Yes they will be good for incline walking.

Incline does not need as much flexibility so you could probably get away with using running shoes.

However, I believe that the MW877 would be good for incline on the treadmill as well 🙂
