Are the New Balance Vazee Prism Good Racing Shoes?

A racing shoe that’s super lightweight, speedy and comfortable as hell all at the same time?

Naw, this couldn’t possibly be true.

Well that’s what the team over at New Balance claims about the Vazee Prism running shoe.

These claims are not entirely far-fetched as racing shoes are meant to be lightweight and speedy.

My main concern is this:

It’s a racing shoe, they’re not meant to be for training.

However, reviewers use it for everyday running and say they’re really durable and last many miles.

A racing shoe should be strictly used for race day and not training.

Something doesn’t add up, which is why I am here to debunk the online reviews and provide my honest opinion.

Enjoy.

The Rundown

New Balance are steering away from different model numbers and starting to use distinctive names instead, hence “New Balance Vazee Prism”.

It comes in many different colors but the best is hands down the bright orange colorway.

It’s a stability shoe that helps pronators stay supportive and secure.

The Vazee Prism features a lace up closure with a “bootie construction”, while the mesh upper promotes air flow.

The bootie construction makes the shoe snug and comfortable without being restrictive.

It locks you in place with the heel unit created from hard fabric, which is different from the traditional plastics.

The midsole includes New Balance’ REVlite technology, promoting a very responsive cushioning while staying lightweight.

It allows wearers to absorb shock upon landing and then springing back with power.

How the Vazee Prism Works

New Balance Vazee Prism Side

There are 3 words to describe this shoe. Speedy, comfortable, lightweight.

It is specifically designed to propel you forward, working out your calves more.

Your calves are getting a better workout and after a couple of weeks they’ll be even stronger.

This will lead to easier training days and allow you to go for longer.

Not a Racing Shoe (in my opinion)

New Balance wants them to be a racing shoe, however, they are too heavy for racing.

Racing shoes are meant to be as lightweight as possible.

They feel like there’s nothing on your feet. A pair of extremely lightweight racing shoes weigh no more than a deck of cards.

But the Prism weighs about 9.8 ounces.

Far too heavy to race in, but definitely light enough for daily training.

The Prism gets your ready for race day.

They are amazing at keeping you propelling forward.

They offer incredible comfort.

They offer so much in terms of a lightweight, speed, stability.

So even though they’re not the fastest shoe, they perform beyond expectations for daily training.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are they lightweight?

Yes. They offer lightweight materials so that they don’t feel like anything’s on your feet.

Are they true to size?

Yes. The mens sizes have a 73% fit rate and the womens have a fit rate of 77%.

Are they made for wide feet?

Yes. They have wide size options available. People with wide feet can fit them comfortably.

What type of stability shoe are they?

They’re designed for pronators.

Pronators are those that land on the inside of their heel. A quick way to check your gait is to look at your shoes.

Do they have alternative uses?

No. They are not made for anything else other than running. If you’re after a versatile running shoe, I recommend you look at the Adidas Tubular Shadow.

Do I Recommend Them?

The New Balance Vazee Prism are pronation running shoes.

That means those who supinate or have a natural gait will find them uncomfortable.

And unfortunately that’s what some customers are doing.

If you do not pronate, do not buy these as they will not fit.

They also should not be used for racing.

The good news is that these are the only bad points I could find.

They come in 3 different colors (orange, black, blue) and look visually appealing.

I have no issues with them because they are perfect trainers.

At this price, when you consider how lightweight and comfortable they are, it’s almost a steal.

To answer the question whether I recommend them, that’s a big fat yes.

As long as they are used for daily running and not racing 🙂

My Verdict: Speedy, Comfortable, Lightweight

I thought these were going to give me a competitive advantage against other runners, but they do not.

If you decide to use them for running, expect to work a little harder to win.

Yes they are trainers to get your ready for racing, but I can guarantee anyone with a lighter shoe are going to have more advantages.

It’s been scientifically proven. The lighter the she, the faster you run.

I can’t argue with that.

Now are you trying to win as easily as possible, or are you trying to put in more unnecessary work?

Well that’s up to you.
