Product Description

Lebron James is one hell of a basketball player, and the Soldier 13 SFG’s compliment this man so well.

They have a high-top design and extended tongue for extra cushioning.

It includes the iconic King James crown logo and Nike’s Air Zoom units under the forefoot and heel, providing a fast and speedy ride.

These Air units work in conjunction with the foam cushioning by providing a super lightweight shoe while staying cloud-soft and responsive.

The riptsop upper expands as you put your feet in and locks them into place.

Closure includes dual straps with velcro and pull-tab tightening so that your feet stay secure during intense basketball sessions.

It also helps players get in and out of their basketball shoes with ease.

The oustole consists of a herringbone rubber pattern design.

The Design and Top

The design is visually appealing and grabs the attention of other players or people.

It comes in over 10 different colorways and features a high-top design.

For those of you who don’t know, a high-top basketball shoe is mostly used by heavy and slower players.

They tend to require more stability than their counterparts – the speedy and light players.

The high-top design provides immense stability and cushioning so that heavy players can run and jump safely without causing injury.

Although if you simply want it for casual use, choosing between a high-top, mid-top or low-top doesn’t really matter, as you’re only using it for appearance and comfort.

Are They Comfortable?

That’s a no-brainer really.

Players can release the straps and put their foot in, feeling the collar open up and then tighten around their ankles.

Then it’s just a matter of securing the dual velco straps for a snug fit.

However, snug doesn’t mean tight. It’s a good fit without being restrictive.

Now on the court they’ve got Nike’s Air Zoom and foam sole for major lifts and cushioning every step.

Looking at the reviews from customers, they also say they’re extremely comfortable.

Nike have done a great job at keeping them snug fitting and softening hard landings.

Because of all these reasons I have no doubts that they are comfortable as everyone describes them to be.

How Do They Hold Up?

Nike sell them for $230 on their official website, and Amazon sell for $160 – 260, depending on the color and size you choose.

They are by no means cheap and have a little hype behind them considering they are LEBRON JAMES’ shoes!

A shoe in this price range needs to have their ducks in a row if they want to pull it off properly.

Fortunately I have got good news regarding the way the Nike Lebron Soldier 13 SFG shoe performs.

They’re laceless so you don’t need to worry about them untying during the game.

Plus they offer exceptional lockdown and fit.

They’ve got amazing traction and a good balance of being lightweight and well-cushioned.

Also while we’re on the subject of durability and strength, it’s safe to say that they are made with quality in mind.

Nike always know how to create quality kicks because they’ve been doing it for so long.

If used strictly for basketball, they should last a few years.

If used for casual/walking around all day, they will last a couple years.

Traction

I want to talk about the traction a little bit more.

For some reason people hear herringbone and automatically think it offers the best traction for any surface it lands on.

Yes it’s true that the Soldier 13 SFG includes a herringbone pattern, but it’s just the same as any other herringbone rubber outsole.

In my opinion they are average. Not bad, nothing special. Just good, normal, solid basketball traction.

However, something that sticks out is the thick rubber.

Most manufacturers create a thin outsole to reduce weight, which strictly makes it an indoor shoe as it cannot withstand the surface of an outdoor court.

Well these shoes are good for indoor and outdoor use thanks to the wide and thick rubber outsole.

Also keep in mind that it may take a couple days to break in the traction.

The Negative Reviews

May be a little tight when first worn

Some reviewers have said that they’re a little tight when first worn.

This is because they are made to be snug, but if they’re too snug, it can take a few days to break in.

This is a normal process and doesn’t take long.

Foot opening may be tight

Someone else said that the foot opening is a little tight but comfortable when worn.

I mean, if it’s comfortable when worn, there’s no need to give it a bad review in the first place.

It seems that there’s not much really wrong with this sneaker.

The opening is made to be tight because it locks your foot into place (creating strong lockdown abilities).

In regards to the breaking in process, most shoes need this.

It’s simply inevitable but doesn’t always happen with every shoe.

So that’s everything bad I could find.

When I saw the name “Lebron James” and the price tag, I knew we were dealing with a shoe that’s built to perform.

The Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Easily comfortable for every wearer
  • Traction is good for indoor and outdoor use
  • Good lockdown and fit with the velcro straps
  • Okay durability and strength
  • Responsive and lightweight cushioning

Cons

  • May require a few days to break in

Recommended?

It seems that Nike chose to go with performance over everything else.

And that’s not a bad thing.

They really do perform when it comes to basketball games and shooting hoops.

However, that means they had to compromise elsewhere, which they have done with the materials.

The materials are pretty good and definitely worth their price, but nothing special or good enough to give you that “wow” factor.

What does give the wow factor is the performance and that’s what needs to be emphasized.

They have good cushioning, great traction and a very reliable snug and secure fit.

The Nike Lebron Soldier 13 SFG does NOT lack anywhere, as the quality and materials used are certainly worth the price tag.

So that begs the question: do I recommend them?

Considering that there’s nothing drastic wrong with them, and that the breaking in process is needed with most shoes, then I’ve got no problems recommending them.

Yes, the Soldier 13 SFG’s are highly recommended!

Alternative/Similar Basketball Shoe

Nike Kyrie 5

You’ve probably heard of the Nike Kyrie’s on your adventures for shopping new basketball kicks.

The Nike Kyrie 5 is one of my favorite due to their immense strength, durability, and quality construction.

They’re in the same price range as the SFG’s but includes much better traction – more grippy!

They even have more features and last longer due to the stronger materials used.

These were a favorite of mine when I first reviewed them and they continue to hold that spot months down the line.

Performance Is #1

If I had to describe the Nike Lebron Soldier 13 SFG in one word, it would be:

Performance.

The quality is average but they make up for it in the performance department.

They are a true beast on the court and will take you from zero to hero instantly.

They are easy to put on and take off, they’re very comfortable, and now they are my second favorite basketball shoe!

If you’re looking for ultimate performance, you can’t go wrong with these.

If you want strength and maximum durability, opt for the Kyrie 5’s instead.
