Nike React Element 55: What Makes It So Special?

I just found this cool looking sneaker on Amazon and thought I would talk about it on my blog.

My favorite shoes should have both visual impact and multiple uses.

I want to stand out wherever I go and that’s why this sneaker stood out to me.

However, I like to do my own research before coming to any conclusions.

So in this Nike React Element 55 review, I will find out if this shoe is good or simply a waste of money.

Now lets get into the article!

Bottom Line:

This shoe offers the best comfort and support for walking, weightlifting, and someone on their feet all day.

It is so lightweight and comfortable that it feels like nothings on the feet and you’re walking on clouds instead.

Yes there are some downsides. It should not be used for fitness, cardio or running…but it performs flawlessly for what it’s designed to do.

They are a little pricey but the durability, longevity, premium walking comfort and lightweight make up for it!

Highly recommended.

Nike React Element 55 Review

Product name: Nike React Element 55

Type of Shoe: Walking

Best for: Walking, weightlifting, all-day comfort

Bad for: Sports, fitness, running

Price: $160 – $240

What is the Nike React Element 55?

Nike React Element 55 2

This shoe comes in many different colorways and designs, and you can even design your own on the official Nike website.

This means you can create your own colorway. This is actually pretty cool as I have not seen any other brands do this.

The React Element 55 is designed to appear futuristic and stand out.

Nike wanted to create a “premium walking experience” for people on their feet all day, especially those in high activity walking jobs.

So they came up with this shoe.

But regarding the performance…

It features Nike’s React foam cushioning for a balance of weight and exceptional comfort.

The textile upper cuts down on weight even more and the TPU Heel clip increases stability and durability (resistant to cracking, chemicals, oil and abrasion).

The outsole consists of a high-abrasion resistance rubber and a pod system for great traction on any type of surface.

Do They Fit True to Size?

There seems to be mixed feedback for the fitting of this shoe, but I know Nike, and I know they run small.

This is a common problem when buying shoes online because no one knows if they will fit or not.

However, I have reviewed many different products throughout the years.

And one things for sure, Nike shoes run small.

Order 1/2 size up for a good fit, otherwise get your normal Nike size if you already shop with Nike.

Also keep in mind that they have a slightly narrow toe box.

People with wide forefoot will need to look elsewhere for another shoe, as this is not going to work for you.

Don’t worry, I have an alternative at the bottom of this article.

What Are They Best Used For?

Lets face it, no shoe is good if it doesn’t perform, not even a shoe that looks as cool as this one.

I set out on a mission to see if this shoe actually performs, and you’d be surprised at what I found.

Walking

The Nike React Element 55 was specifically created for walking and people on their feet all day, so the walking capabilities are a no-brainer.

These shoes offer incredible comfort for walking thanks to the computational design that “maps the pressure points for people on their feet all day”.

They can also be used for walking on the treadmill but certainly not running, but more on that in a second.

Weightlifting

There’s ample cushioning, foot support and ankle stability to lift weights, which is why I have no issues with anyone using them for weightlifting.

They can be used for heavy lifts, light lifts and machine weights.

Casual Use

They are great for casual wear!

They stand out wherever they go and the comfort makes them even better for going out in.

Wearing them to parties, events, lunch with friends, dates, doing groceries, running errands, these are all good places to wear them.

Things they should NOT be used for…

Running – They should not be used for running as they are too cushiony and do not have enough stability. Sure, a 10 minute cool down on the treadmill is okay but nothing too intense

Crossfit – It’s possible to wear these for crossfit but I do not recommend it as they are not designed for high intensity activities

Doing intense fitness training is going to wear them down quicker and they won’t perform as good as real cross-training shoes

Sports (basketball, tennis, etc) – Sorry, the stability is not there for lateral (side-to-side) movement patterns, making basketball and other court games a no-go

What I Like

These shoes are incredibly lightweight.

People say they can’t even feel them on the feet. It’s like walking on clouds all day without the stress of walking around in a bulky sneaker.

I also like the comfort factor.

Everyone loves how comfortable they and that’s due to the Nike React technology.

The thick foam offers ample cushioning for walking, weightlifting, and especially high-activity jobs.

Plus the futuristic appearance gets all the looks from passerby, which is always a bonus when you want to look your best.

So What are the Bad Points?

The biggest complaint is the narrow toe box which is going to be a big problem for some users.

Sorry wide feet people, this shoe is out of the question, even if you size up.

That’s really all there is wrong with it and that’s surprising because most shoes have at least 2-3 negatives.

Well I’m actually pleased about it and it’s certainly one of the best shoes I have reviewed so far.

The Price & Where to Buy

The Nike React Elemental can be found at Amazon, Nike, and other online stores.

But Nike does not offer free shipping, where as Amazon does.

So that is my preferred place of purchase, especially because of 30-day return policy and fast shipping!

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Incomparable comfort
  • Feels like nothings on the feet
  • Futuristic design
  • Best shoe for walking and all-day comfort
  • Very durable, will last for months before seeing any wear and tear
  • Durable heel clip and rubber outsole

Cons

  • Too narrow for wide feet
  • Not good for crossfit, running or sports

The Nike React Element 55 Alternative

Nike Air Max 97

Unfortunately those with wide feet, or anyone that wants to use this for high-intensity activities, cannot use the Air React Elemental.

However, the alternative is the Nike Air Max 97.

This shoe also has a futuristic appearance as it was inspired by the Japanese bullet train.

The wide design accommodates those with wide feet and the design is more suited for long distance running, making it the perfect alternative.

It’s very comfortable and can also be used for walking, standing all day, the gym, and casual use.

Final Verdict

The Nike React Element is hands down the best shoe I have reviewed to date.

The quality, attention-to-detail, and the fact that it offers incomparable comfort makes it stand out to me.

The design aspect is a huge bonus as I will always choose comfort before anything else.

But for a shoe that “has it all”?

Now that’s got my attention.

I am a huge fan and stand by it 110%

It’s a little expensive for the average consumer but worth every penny if you ask me.

Well that concludes my review.

I appreciate you reading to the end and hope you found everything you were looking for 🙂

Thanks for reading and have a great day.

  1. Wow – I’m surprised to learn that the Nike Element 55 should not be used for fitness, cardio or running! The shoe looks extremely durable and I would honestly consider purchasing it to use for my morning jogging but thanks to your review I know it shouldn’t be used for sports. I definitely like how you can design the shoe yourself on the website – it would make for a very unique, thoughtful, and special gift! Thanks for sharing this.

    • It is definitely durable for those activities, but not exactly designed for it so I do not recommend it.

That’s is definitely cool how you can design your own shoe. I might create one for my partner for her birthday, get those brownie points up haha.

      Cheers mate.
