Bottom Line:

I really liked this shoe until I found out that there’s a chance of making a popping sound after a month.

This sound is incredibly loud as you walk and you can be heard a mile away.

I try to give shoes the benefit of the doubt, but in my opinion, there is just too many complaints about the popping sound that I cannot ignore it.

I do not recommend the Revolution 5.

The Nike Revolution 4 is a much better choice.

Nike Revolution 5 Review

Product name: Nike Revolution 5

Type of Shoe: Running

Best for: Casual, walking, running, working

Bad for: Gym, sports, athletics

Price: $60 – $120

What is the Nike Revolution 5 Shoe?

This shoe is designed for running, has an 87% fit rate and 12 different colorways.

It consists of many features such as the:

  • Minimalist design to fit in wherever your day takes you
  • Revolutionary comfort to cushion every stride
  • Mesh upper to promote ventilation and allow your feet to breath
  • Reinforced heel overlays to extend durability and support
  • Lightweight cushioning for a balance between comfort and weight
  • Durable and flexible traction. The spacing allow your feet to flex naturally and the rubber outsole holds traction on a variety of different surfaces

The whole point of this shoe is to wrap your feet in lightweight and breathable comfort with a soft cushioning, to keep you running for longer.

And the minimalist design ensures you fit in wherever you go.

Finding the Right Fit

I know some people are paranoid about buying shoes online in case they get the wrong size and it doesn’t fit.

The good news is that these shoes have an 87% fit rate.

This is incredible news for people buying shoes online.

This means 87% who bought this shoe found it to fit them comfortably.

However, is one key variable.

Keep in mind that Nike shoes tend to run small and that is also true for these sneakers.

If you’re an avid Nike buyer, go with your normal Nike size.

Otherwise if you’re coming from a different brand, I highly recommend sizing up by at lease 1/2 to get the right fit.

Do that and I have no doubts that these shoes will fit you comfortably.

Do They Perform?

Running

These are designed for running and it looks like they perform very well.

People like them for running because they are comfortable, they have lots of support and the reinforced heel locks their foot in place to prevent moving during rides.

People run for 2-3 miles a day and the shoe stays comfortable the whole time.

Walking

Remember how I said the extra spacing in the outsole provides more flexibility?

Well this is where they come in handy for walking in.

Walking requires a full range of motion, so a shoe that can flex and allow your feet to spread out naturally is going to be great for walking.

So yes, these are also good for both walking and running.

All-Day Comfort

These are also good for all-day comfort.

This means they are especially good for people on their feet all-day in high activity jobs.

Some examples:

  • Healthcare jobs
  • Restaurants jobs
  • Factory jobs
  • etc

Basically, these shoes are good for anywhere that you have to be on your feet all day.

Casual Use

Lastly, the only other thing they are good for is walking around town in, running errands, doing groceries, and just wearing them for casual use.

All of the features make them good for everyday use, and the minimalist design allows them to fit in wherever they go.

Not Good for Sports

These shoes are only good for casual, working, running and walking.

Use them for anything else and you will find them uncomfortable, awkward, and they won’t perform as good.

They should not be used for the gym unless it’s for the treadmill only.

They should not be used for sports like basketball, tennis, volleyball or weightlifting since there’s not enough stability.

What I Like

There’s a few things that I like about the Nike Revolution 5

For one, they are aesthetically pleasing even as a minimalist shoe.

Someone purchased the black and white colorway and received 5 compliments in the first day!

I mean, that is pretty impressive even if it is exaggerated. Even 1 compliment would mean they stand out and people like them.

I also like how there are many different color options to allow anyone to find one they like.

My favorite would have to be the White/Black-blue Hero, just because blue’s my favorite color.

So What Are the Bad Points?

I have talked about all the good things, but now it is time to talk abut the bad points.

One of the major concerns is that a popping sound may occur after a month of wearing them.

This is a very loud sound and you can’t really get it to go away.

It’s not a squeaking sound, it sounds like there is a rock stuck underneath the shoe.

Sadly this has caused me not to like this shoe as much and my rating has gone down a lot because of it.

Secondly, there are complaints about the sizing being off.

People purchase their normal size and it’s not the correct fit.

This circles back to what I talked about earlier. You will need to size up at least 1/2 for it to fit properly.

The Price & Where to Buy

The price sits anywhere between $60 and $120 and can be found on Amazon.com.

They are available in both men and women sizes and go from size 6 all the way up to size 15.

I chose Amazon for the purchase is because of their 30-day return policy.

Anyone that doesn’t like the shoe can send it back within the first 30 days, no questions asked.

Also they have fast delivery and free shipping!

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Extremely comfortable
  • Versatile
  • Minimalist design
  • Lightweight
  • Ample ventilation

Cons

  • A popping sound may occur after a while
  • Sizes run 1/2 size small

The Nike Revolution 5 Alternative

Revolution 4 Running Shoe

The Nike Revolution 4 is a better alternative, as it does not have the popping sound.

They are also available in men’s and women’s sizes, and consists of a minimalist design for lightweight and breathability.

The only con is the bland appearance.

However, this shoe has support for all arch types and makes a great running shoe.

There are also wide options for people with wide feet!

Final Verdict

Unfortunately the popping sound is a little too common for my liking.

I would like the Nike Revolution 5 if it didn’t have this complaint, but it is happening with many buyers.

Everyone seems to like it for the comfort and versatility, but the popping sound is a huge let down.

The alternative I mentioned above is a much better choice.

There are far more pros than cons, however, do they cost a bit more so keep that in mind.

The good news is that the popping sound doesn’t happen with everyone.

You can either take the chance or choose another shoe, but that’s my final verdict.

  2. Hi Brandon,

A real eye opener. I find it really strange that the product is being sold, even with the popping sound appearing after a month. Or, perhaps the manufacturer was never informed about this occurrence? That sounds really weird (no pun intended!)

Have you tried to contact the seller/manufacturer about this? If you have problems with the popping sound, then it’s more than likely that other people will too.

A real pity that these shoes are not suitable for sports as well.

    • Hey Andre, that’s a good question.

But Nike gets thousands of emails per day, one little defect is not going to make them change anything.

They will have to receive complaints about them over and over again for them to wake up.

Then who knows what they’ll do. Maybe they will fix it if they’re getting enough sales, or simply cancel them altogether if they aren’t profitable.

  3. Hey nice article you have there. Nike product has been my preferred product for ages, the comfort I derived from their product has given me more reason to desire it. Nike products fit into everything I need it for, for jogging it is efficient and durable, for outing it’s awesome. Kudos to Team Nike for such a reliable product.

  4. Hello Brandon, this shoe is definitely one nice product and I really like the fact that it can be used in various places because of the comfort that comes with it. Although thinking about the popping sound i figured it could be a problem that arose from the sole of the shoe and that could be bad for any product indeed. Aside that its a nice catch for anyone.

    • It is a nice catch but that popping sound is the straw that broke the camels back. I cannot recommend this shoe because I don’t want anyone experiencing an annoying sound after a few weeks of buying it.

      Cheers.
