Reebok Iverson Legacy Review: Perfect Retro For Non-Basketball Players

Reebok are a popular brand and I tend to like some of their shoes.

This one caught my eye because it pays tribute to the former NBA player Allen Iverson.

And I mean, just look at it.

It’s a great looking shoe.

But I know looks can be deceiving, and that’s why in this article I will find out how this shoe REALLY performs.

My name is Brandon and I find the real quality of sneakers and write down my findings.

I hope you enjoy this Reebok Iverson Legacy review.

They are perfect for looking stylish, casual wear, weightlifting and basketball if that’s your thing.

But keep in mind that innovation and technology has evolved over the years, especially since they were first released in the 90’s.

Yes it performs for basketball.

Yes it gives you an advantage over other players.

But is it the most ‘high value for money’ basketball shoe out there?

No, there are better alternatives at this price range.

Here’s my alternative

Introduction

Product name: Reebok Iverson Legacy

Designed for: Basketball

Best for: Basketball, weightlifting, throwback vibes, casual wear, lifestyle

Bad for: Running, walking, cardio, CrossFit, or any other type of fitness activity

Price: $70 – $160

What is the Reebok Iverson Legacy?

This shoe is basically a mash-up of all key features from Allen Iverson’s footwear line.

It is designed to possess all the latest features while keeping the retro vibe.

It’s aesthetically pleasing and comes in athletic blue/white, and black/white, red/white, and black (all unisex).

The shoe features DMX cushioning which moves air from the forefoot to the heel, and vice versa, as you run up and down the courts.

This promotes adequate ventilation so your feet don’t get hot and sweaty.

The removable sockliner allows players to insert their own orthotics, which is good for someone with foot problems.

It also features good ankle stabilization which is mandatory in a basketball shoe.

Sizing and Fit Details

Some shoes can be a little confusing when buying online.

Thankfully I have done the ground work to see how this shoe fits and if it’s true to size.

Amazon says they fit true to size which means everyone that has given it a review has clicked “true to size”.

Also on the official Reebok website they claim they fit true to size.

The ‘Narrow-to-wide’ meter is starting to lean towards it being too wide, so for those who have wide feet these will fit you perfectly.

The vast majority of people claim that they fit true to size, so I would say get your normal size and you should be fine.

What Are They Best For?

Basketball

These shoes are made for basketball so you would think they perform for basketball, wouldn’t they?

Yes they do.

They have a great deal of ventilation as air moves underfoot, they have ankle stabilization, and lots of cushioning to soften strides and heavy landings.

This basketball shoe was worn by the NBA player Allen Iverson himself, and have proven to perform.

They definitely perform for basketball and they have all the features to give you a competitive advantage.

However, there are still better basketball shoes in this price range which I’ll talk more about soon.

Weightlifting

Most basketball shoes can be used for weightlifting, and that is also true for the Reebok Iverson Legacy.

Weightlifting requires a great deal of cushioning and ankle support which is what the Iverson is good at.

Keep in mind that if worn to the gym, they should ONLY be used for weightlifting and not CrossFit, cardio or running.

Casual, Throwback Vibes

There’s no doubt that these shoes stand out.

They possess a throwback vibe with the heritage appearance, and with the right colors they can go with pretty much any outfit.

They do not need to be used for weightlifting or basketball and can actually be used for the comfort factor and looking cool as you go about your day.

That’s it.

Basketball, weightlifting and casual are the only ways to wear these shoes.

Use them for anything else and you may causing pain or injury.

What I Like

I actually like a lot about these shoes.

My favorite is hands down the ankle stability thanks to the midcut opening.

I need these in my shoes because I’m a heavy set (about 240- 250 pounds) and need the extra stability when lifting weights.

I don’t play basketball but I use basketball shoes for lifting weights and that’s why I know ankle stability plays a huge part in pushing me beyond my limits.

I also love the visually appealing design. Retro style isn’t really for me but this one is actually interesting.

With the right outfit it could look amazing.

If I were to purchase these it would be for weightlifting due to the ankle stability, comfort and support.

The Bad Stuff

Now that we have got all the good things out of the way, it’s time to discuss what this shoe is really lacking and why you may want to stay away from it.

I could not find anything bad about this shoe other than small complaints like it “being too bulky”.

I mean, you can see that it’s bulky in the pictures, it’s not like Reebok are trying to pull the wool over your eyes as you can clearly see they are bulky basketball shoes.

Another complaint was that they aren’t worth the price.

In my opinion they are retros and look the part. Comfort and aesthetics is up there and the quality is good enough.

That complaint goes out the window because most who buy it love it for the appearance and comfort.

Of course innovation has taken a big turn since they were first released in the 90’s, so they don’t have today’s technology.

They aren’t the best basketball shoe for the price because they are old school and still possess old school technology.

Don’t expect them to perform perfectly for basketball because you will be let down.

Otherwise if you want it for the retro vibes, casual wear and weightlifting, these are definitely for you.

Price & Purchase Details

The price of the Reebok Iverson Legacy ranges from $70 – $160 depending on seller and website.

Reebok sell them for $130 but I find that Amazon has cheaper prices and free shipping.

They also have a 30-day return policy which means you can send the shoe back if you don’t like it.

The Iverson Legacy Alternative

Adidas Dame 5 Shoe

Honestly, if you don’t want to play basketball but love the retro look, the Iverson Legacy’s are perfect for you.

However, innovation has taken a big turn and if you want them to play basketball in, I would like for something else because there are far better alternatives in this price range.

The Adidas Dame 5 is a much better choice.

They have comfort, stability, cushion, much more colors and can also be used for standing all day or just looking cool.

Do I Recommend the Reebok Iverson Leagcy Shoe?

For casual wear, looking cool, and bringing everyone around you into your vintage vibe, these are hands down for you.

They are also great for weightlifting if that’s your thing.

They are definitely still good for basketball and have even proven that.

But times have changed and there are better quality shoes with better technology in this price range.

Apart from that minor issue, there is plenty to love and little to hate about this classic basketball sneaker.

Everyone loves it and those who don’t nit-pick at little things that don’t matter.

So do I recommend the Reebok Iverson Legacy Basketball Shoe?

I absolutely do because it has everything right and nothing wrong.

Highly recommended!

My Final Opinion

They are absolutely amazing and have the love from the community to back it up.

I went into this review with no expectations because I wanted to keep an open mind, and I discovered more than I thought I would.

I don’t do retro but I seemed to like this one because designer shoes are my forte.

Anything that stands out and goes good with any outfit is a winner in my eyes.

As long as you use them for the activities I mentioned in this article, you’ll have a great shoe that works for you.

So that’s my final opinion.

Thanks for reading to the end, I really appreciate.

Cheers and have a great day!
