Reebok Nano 9 Review – Best Cross Training Shoe For the Price?

The Reebok Nano 9 looks like a decent shoe, but as we’ve found out, you can’t judge a book by its cover.

With shoes there are some flaws, and you don’t really know about these flaws until you do some research on them.

Some shoes have lots of major flaws and others have minor flaws.

Hopefully we’re dealing with a shoe that performs up to expectations and doesn’t crumble within the first couple of months.

Walk with me as I research this shoe and find out what it’s all about.

I hope you enjoy my Reebok Nano 9 review.

Bottom Line:

These shoes are great for CrossFit, short distance running, walking all day and weightlifting.

The wide toe box allows for a more natural movement and increased mobility while maximizing performance.

It’s great for neutral and high arch, but should not be worn by anyone with a low arch or flat feet (alternative here).

It has the quality, performance, comfort and stability, and I’ve classed it as one of the best CrossFit shoes in its price range.

Highly recommended!

Reebok Nano 9 Overview

Product name: Reebok Nano 9

Type of Shoe: Cross Trainer

Best for: CrossFit, short-distance running, sprints, walking, weightlifting

Bad for: Sports (basketball, tennis, etc)

Price: $90 – $130

What is the Reebok Nano 9?

The Nano 9 is a cross training shoe, or more specifically, created “by the CrossFit community, for the CrossFit community”.

A cross training shoe is a hybrid of other fitness shoes, which is what allows it to be used for many different workouts.

Some cross trainers work better than others, so lets find out what this shoe has to offer first.

Cross training shoe – Textile upper for locking in your feet, support cage for weightlifting stability, and cushioning for running

Large toe box – The increased toe box houses wide feet comfortably while promoting a natural movement pattern

Flexweave upper – The flexweave upper is strong and durable, providing plenty of ventilation and security…good for preventing sweat buildup and hot feet

Minimal drop – Some shoes have zero drop technology, others have a high drop, but the drop in the Nano 9 is minimal to allow for secure footing and injury prevention

Bootie construction – Offers a balance between comfort and performance

Low-cut design – Other shoes feature a mid-top or a high-top, but the Nano 9 features a low-top design for increased mobility and agility, which is a MUST for CrossFit

Does It Fit True to Size?

The good news is that most reviews claim they fit true to size.

The people claiming that it doesn’t fit doesn’t know the increased toe box encourages better performance.

It clearly states it on the official website, so it’s their fault if they didn’t read it.

There is supposed to be a little wiggle room to allow for the extra mobility that cross training requires.

So I have no issues whether or not they fit true to size, because they definitely do.

Does the Shoe Perform?

CrossFit

Lets touch base with how they actually perform for CrossFit since that’s what they are designed for.

They have natural movement thanks to the widened toe box, mobility, comfort, stability, durability and an affordable price tag.

They are one of the better cross training shoes that I have reviewed to date and I highly recommend them for this activity.

Running

Reebok themselves say that these should not be used for long-distance running.

They are good for sprints and short-distance running, and perform incredibly well in this field.

But it will almost certainly cause soreness and wear out faster if used for extended running sessions.

Short distance means a couple minutes a day, not 5 miles a day.

Basically, it allows for running activities if your workout requires it.

Everyday Walking Around

The Nano 9 are also good for walking around all day.

The comfort factor is high up there because Reebok wanted the shoe to be comfortable for most fitness activities.

Plus the extra flexibility in the upper and outsole allows for a full range of motion.

Other cross training shoes are limited in versatility but you can actually walk all day in these if you wanted to.

Weightlifting

They are absolutely amazing for weightlifting!

They make your lifts steady and more centered, especially for exercises like squats, walking lunges, deadlifts, military presses, etc.

They offer stability and comfort to allow for weightlifting, and for someone that’s an avid weight lifter, that is a HUGE plus.

What about Sports?

Nobody is saying that they are using these shoes for sports like basketball or tennis so I cannot say whether or not they perform for that.

However from my knowledge, cross trainers aren’t usually good for any type of sports as they are not designed for it and may cause injury.

So what are these shoes good for?

  • CrossFit
  • Walking
  • Short-distance running
  • Sprints
  • Weightlifting

Do they Have Arch Support?

They have good neutral and high arch support.

Those with arches like them and think they are very comfortable.

But others with flat feet or low arches complain about them not being comfortable enough.

So yes they have arch support, but anyone with little-to-no arch should stay away from these shoes (alternative at the bottom of the article).

Some even state that they have more arch support than previous Nano versions.

What I Like

I had no expectations when I first looked into these shoes, but after going through all the online feedback, it’s a no-brainer that the community loves them.

I especially like the increased toe box which is good for wide feet and increasing mobility and agility.

Basically, it promotes a natural feeling without being bogged down or sacrificing comfort.

I also like the features and durability.

The features and strength allows it to last longer and perform better than expected.

What are the Bad Points?

So I’ve talked a lot about the good things so far, but lets see what is actually wrong with it.

They are made for neutral and high arch, so anyone without an arch will not like these shoes.

There are other complaints about the quality being a little off.

However, those complaints were prior to 2018

Reviews after 2019 state at how durable they are and the longevity.

So even though they were lacking quality just a couple of years ago, it seems Reebok has listened to the people and done something about it.

Another common complaint is about people receiving already-worn shoes.

This has nothing to do with the performance but everything to do with the seller.

That’s why it’s important to know who you are buying off.

The Price & Where to Buy

As mentioned above, it’s best to know where you’re getting your shoes from.

Some sellers are shady and that’s why I highly recommend only purchasing from reputable websites such as Amazon.com and official websites.

The Reebok brand is actually on Amazon so you know you’re getting 100% authentic shoes.

Plus you can view the colorways on one page instead of scrolling through many different pages.

Reebok sell them for $130, however, I’ve found that Amazon sell them much cheaper (around $90).

Amazon also has fast shipping and a 30-day return policy.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • Versatile
  • Lots of comfort
  • Stability for many different activities
  • Widened toe box
  • Good arch support
  • High value for money

Cons

  • Not good for flat feet or low arch

The Reebok Nano 9 Alternative

As you know, these shoes are not good for low arch or flat feet.

This cuts out a lot of people.

However, the Nike Air Max Torch 4 is a better alternative for people with little-to-no arch.

Nike Men's Air max Torch 4 Running Shoes

This shoe is similar in price and can also be used for CrossFit, running and walking.

I classed it as an almost perfect shoe because it pretty much is.

The main downside is that the sizing is confusing, but I explain how to get the right fit on my review page.

Final Verdict

I thought the Reebok Nano 9 was going to be a big let down when I saw the price tag.

But I was wrong.

This is the best cross training shoe that I have reviewed at this price.

It has quality, it has comfort, it has stability, it has the price, it has it all.

It has everything a great cross training shoe needs, and because of that, I have no complaints.

I love it and so does everyone else who buys it.

The Reebok Nano 9 is highly recommended.

Well that concludes my Reebok Nano 9 review. I hope you enjoyed this article and found everything you were looking for.

Thanks for reading and have a great day.
