What is the Saucony Cohesion 13 All About?

Saucony describes this shoe as “for the price conscious buyer that craves comfort”. They provide a balance of comfort, durability and cushioning at an affordable price range.

The Saucony Cohesion 13 is an updated version of the 12, which was a very successful running shoe.

The 13 is a road running shoe with a healthy weight to boast about.

It has a cheap price tag to make it perfect for beginners, and even includes a trail running version called the TR13.

The Cohesion 13 has neutral arch support, a highly breathable upper, versarun technology, and a durable rubber outsole.

What The Features Do

Saucony’s special Versarun cushioning was not on the predecessor. The 12 had Versafoam which offers different cushioning.

Versarun technology absorbs impact while reducing pressure on bones, tendons and joints.

The highly durable rubber outsole flexes with your feet, promoting a natural running experience so you don’t feel restricted.

Saucony claims the outsole “holds up to lots of miles”.

Then comes the upper, a stretchy material that’s breathable and comfortable. But more on that in a second.

Changes from the 12

While there isn’t really much changes from the 12 and 13, there are still some noticeable differences.

Firstly they are 0.4 ounces lighter. They feel really light on the feet and sometimes feel like they’re not even there.

The other change is the VersaRUN technology. The Cohesion 12 included VersaFOAM.

Very similar in many ways, the easiest way to explain the differences is that VersaRun provides shock absorption, while VersaFoam returns energy to the runner.

A Closer Look

The upper has a combination of synthetic and mesh materials. This typical construction cuts down on weight while providing ventilation.

Overlays provide security in weak areas that are prone to fast wear and tear.

The lining is also made of a soft mesh for irritation-free running.

The upper includes a padded tongue, which is especially good for:

Securing the ankle in place, adding comfort, stopping rocks and debris entering the shoe, and preventing shoe laces from rubbing the top of the foot.

Saucony Cohesion 13 Outsole

I’m really impressed with the outsole of the Saucony Cohesion 13.

The cheap price tag doesn’t affect the durable rubber outsole whatsoever.

In fact Saucony have put a lot of the budget into the outsole, keeping traction and strength as high as possible, extending the grip and lifespan.

The midsole is another impressive part of this sneaker. This is where all of the comfort comes from that everyone talks about.

It’s includes Versarun technology, a cushioning material that absorbs impact for every step.

Although this technology does have its flaws.

It’s not good for speed work or fast-pace running. The foot strike can feel a little hard.

In saying that, they stay comfortable on virtually all running surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are they made for wide feet?

Yes. Wide sizes are available as well as neutral sizes.

What’s the arch support like?

They have a heel-to-toe drop of 12mm. This is a little higher than the traditional 10mm.

Although it doesn’t appear to affect arch support at all.

People say they’re good for all arch types, even flat feet!

Are they true to size?

Yes. Saucony are consistent with their sizes.

On Amazon they have an 85% fit rate. That is really high.

How long do they last?

The durability is pretty good for a cheap shoe.

An average pair of running shoes last 300 – 400 miles if used strictly for running.

And that’s the expected lifespan of the Saucony Cohesion 13.

How versatile are they?

Very versatile.

They make good casual/everyday shoes, they’re good for walking, for your job, and even the gym.

If used for low impact activities they will last far longer than 300 – 400 miles.

A Word From the People

This shoe has experienced an insane amount of good feedback in a small amount of time.

Lets check them out.

Amazon Ratings: 4.6/5
Google Ratings:
Saucony’s Official Website: 4.4/5

As you can see, the ratings are pretty consistent across the board.

This is a very good sign that we are dealing with a high value for money shoe with the utmost comfort.

Customer Reviews

The thick, cushioned heel bed protects my feet and I can put many miles on these shoes before I feel that they need to be replaced.

Very comfortable with my orthotics replacing the insole. Wear them to exercise and for every day wear in other colors.

These shoes are amazing and I have little to no discomfort when walking in them! After spending 100’s of dollars on shoes that sit in my closet because they hurt too bad to wear, these are an absolute God send!

I like these shoes, they are quite comfy! The soles are not slip resistant on water or oil though, which they never claimed to be, great for everyday use though!

I walk 4-6 miles every day and have worn through three pairs of Saucony shoes. They are not cheap quality and they last

Expert Reviews

Running Shoes Guru – These shoes offer lots of cushioning and support at an affordable price range. They under promise and over deliver. They’ll get you through long distance and short distance and many, many miles.

Run Repeat – Run Repeat says they’re designed for runners who need flexibility, cushioning and versatility. Although it has a cheap price, the rubber outsole is durable and withstands many miles.

My Own Opinion

The Saucony Cohesion 13 is easily one of the best in its price range.

I have been reviewing shoes for many years and this one really stands out to me.

Not because of one single thing, but many different things.

Essentially it has all.

It has comfort.

To find all of these in such a cheap shoe is rare to find.

The changes from the Cohesion 12 are really good too.

The Cohesion 12 keeps the runner running for longer, while the 13 offers immense shock absorption.

The biggest downside I could find was that running fast can hurt the feet (although not a huge deal for daily running).

They are not ideal for running races or speed work, but perfect for training or daily running.

Do I Recommend Them? (The Verdict)

Yes I recommend the Saucony Cohesion 13.

Saucony did not exaggerate any claims.

In fact they set out to make an affordable shoe for the daily runner or beginners just starting out.

And they couldn’t have made it any better.

A true cheap shoe that “has it all”.

Even though it lacks features, it does not affect the performance or strength.

Highly recommended!
