Bottom Line:

This shoe is easily one of my favorites considering there is only one thing wrong with it.

It is known to dig into the back of the heel during the breaking in process. However, this does not happen with everyone and can be reduced with a pair of padded socks.

Other than that it is an amazing running shoe, lightweight but durable, and can also be used for walking or casual use.

Introduction

Product name: Brooks Bedlam 2

Type of Shoe: Running

Best for: Running, jogging, walking, casual

Bad for: Sports, cross training

Price: $108 – $200

What is the Brooks Bedlam 2 Running Shoe?

The Bedlam 2 is an upgraded version of the original Bedlam.

However, this shoe has a flat-knit upper for a more comfortable fit.

The internal booty and integrated collar promotes a sock-like feeling, adding security and support, allowing the shoe to move with you without being restrictive.

This shoe consists of super energized cushioning – some of Brooks best energy-return technology by giving back more energy than you put in.

GuideRails protect the most problem areas which is the knees, by keeping excess movement in check.

It also has heel protection to protect archilles and tendons, and a mesh upper for maximum breathability.

Do They Run Small or Large?

Finding the right fit can be a confusing task especially when buying shoes online, as there is always mixed feedback.

Plus you can’t exactly try before you buy.

So we have to look at the shoe as a whole and not every individual customers feedback.

It turns out that the Brooks Bedlam 2 are true to size.

They don’t run too small or too wide, they are in between.

And they have a fine balance between being too snug and too roomy.

That means the sock-like features have been implemented so well that it adds security and comfort without being tight.

Do They Perform?

If you don’t already know, Brooks are the real deal when it comes to running sneakers.

They have been around for many years, have gone through it all and won many titles and publications for being the best running shoe company.

And those titles still hold until this day.

Running

The Brooks Bedlam 2 have some of Brooks best features.

They have immense energy return which gives back more than you put in, keeping you running for longer without getting as fatigued.

People describe them as “wearing a sock with traction while running on clouds”.

Others say they are excellent, lightweight, fast and not clunky.

Even some of the naysayers claim they are great for running but found other things wrong with the sneaker, which I will talk about soon.

But it’s clear that these shoes are perfect for running and built to perform.

Walking

Some customers use these for walking and not running.

That’s not entirely surprising as there are many running shoes that can be used for walking.

As long as they have a flexible upper (which this shoe does) and stays comfortable, it will perform well for walking.

This means they are good for casual use like walking around town, running errands, working a job, visiting friends and family, etc.

Can they be used for anything else?

They are versatile enough for casual use, walking and running.

If used for anything else they may cause an injury or be far too uncomfortable.

If taken to the gym they should be used on the treadmill, cardio and weight machines only.

They do not have enough lateral support for things like cross training and sports.

What I Like

I like how true to size these shoes are.

This is probably the first shoe that I have found that has such a high fit rate.

This makes it way easier for online shoppers to make a choice because they can get the right size.

I also like how comfortable they are and energy return.

Brooks have implemented some of their best technology into the Bedlam 2 and I think that is awesome, especially for those that want nothing but comfort and support while staying fresher or longer.

Because that describes this shoe to a t.

But what about the bad things, is there anything wrong with it?

Sure there is.

And it may have you running for the hills and never looking back.

The Bad

Unfortunately there is a common complaint about the back of the shoe rubbing or sometimes digging into the back of the ankle.

This is constantly brought up and I thought I should mention it.

Some say it goes away after breaking in which takes a few days.

But until then you will need a good pair of socks with an ankle piece to give it that added protection.

Or just a good pair of padded socks in general.

How bad is this problem?

Those people claiming about the shoe digging into the heel are still giving it 4/5 stars!

That says a lot about the performance and how comfortable it really is.

It just means there’s a little bit of pain until then.

However, some padded socks should keep it as bay as much as possible.

In my opinion it is not a huge problem or deal breaker because it does go away after a few days.

And it’s not like it happens with everyone, just a small minority.

The Price & Where to Buy

So these sneakers can be purchased from Amazon.com or Brooks’ official website.

On the website they go for $150 but sometimes has deals.

However, my preferred place of purchase is Amazon because they have prices from $108 to $200.

It all depends on the sizing, color option and seller.

Also Amazon has a 30-day return policy. Anyone that doesn’t like their purchase can send it back and get a full refund!

No questions asked.

  • They feature some of Brooks’ best technology

Cons

  • The back of the shoe may cut into ankles when breaking in

Do I Recommend It?

At the end of the day there is only one problem that I could find with the Brooks Bedlam 2.

And that’s after scouring through hundreds of customer feedback.

I have no complaints about it because it’s an amazing running shoe and have proven to perform.

Plus they are versatile enough to be used for walking or casual use.

The heel cup is a bit of a problem for a small number of people but does go away eventually.

But for the large majority of buyers, they do not experience this problem and love everything about it.

So I think it’s an amazing running shoe and even though it’s a little pricier than others, it’s high quality and bound to last a long time.

Highly recommended!

Alternative/Similar Shoes

A shoe with many similarities is the Altra Paradigm 4.5. These are also good for running, walking and casual use. They are similar in price and well known for removing pain and foot problems in common injury areas.

The Brooks Glycerin 16 is also a good running shoe. It’s not made for low arch or flat feet but definitely has few flaws and nothing wrong with the performance.

My Final Opinion

I love Brooks because they know what they are doing and have made countless amounts of successful running shoes.

It is made with quality and performance in mind and definitely a shoe to have in your arsenal of running sneakers!

And I knew they would pull it off.

When have they not made a great running shoe?

Let me know in the comments below if you’ve had any bad experiences with Brooks sneakers.

Otherwise that concludes my Brooks Bedlam 2 review.
