Under Armour Charged Assert 8: Low Quality or High Expectations?

Today I want to talk about the Under Armour Charged Assert 8.

Under Armour Charged Assert 8

This shoe has racked up thousands of purchases on Amazon alone and this lead me to wanting to learn more.

When there is a lot of purchasers on a single item, there’s something good about it.

And I want to find out what that is.

Under Armour is a great brand and so far every shoe that I have looked at has been pretty good and none has raised any red flags about the company.

So I hope they can keep this streak going and that the Charged Assert 8 is exactly what it seems.

Enjoy this review.

Bottom line:

You can’t expect much when spending in the $40 – $70 price range.

However, for some reason people expect the world and decide to give it negative reviews when it shows signs of wear and tear after a few months.

These shoes are amazing for the price and you couldn’t ask for anymore than they offer.

They are very comfortable, lightweight, well ventilated, and make great everyday shoes.

Highly recommended!

The Upper

The upper is the top of the shoe which houses the laces, design, tongue, and everything else that makes up the shoe.

The upper on the Under Armour Charged Assert 8 is made of a lightweight mesh material, specifically designed for running.

It is flexible to allow for maximum range of motion while running or walking.

This mesh material is very breathable so that the wearer can stay cool during exercises.

The Outsole

The outsole is a solid rubber that works for both high impact and low impact zones.

This special design cuts down on weight while maximizing grip.

According to online reviews, they have wonderful grip even on uneven terrain and the rain.

Some say that after a year the grip starts to wear down and it’s noticeable.

More good news is that no one has anything bad to say about the traction abilities!

The Midsole

The midsole sits inside the shoe, it is the cushioning that you feel under your feet.

Don’t mistake this for the insole as the midsole is under the insole.

The midsole uses Charged Cushioning, which is a compression molding foam, offering fast responsiveness so that the wearer gets maximum energy return.

Weight

Under Armour keep boasting about how lightweight these shoes are, and to be quite frank, they have the bragging rights to do it.

They weigh a tiny 9.9 ounces!

That’s note even 1 pound.

In comparison, the weight of these shoes are the same as 2 baseballs.

Imagine 2 baseballs in your hand, and you’ll get the total weight.

Lightweight I know!

I think there’s only 2 other shoes that I have reviewed so far that weighs less than a pound.

Breathability

Ventilation is a huge deal when it comes to exercise.

However, some companies get this wrong and end up making a shoe that’s far too hot.

This shoe contains digital print fabric that delivers “complete breathability” as they so bluntly put it.

Well according to the reviews, the argument seems to be leaning more towards cool and ventilated.

Only a couple people said that they were too hot, and the rest said they were ventilated and kept their feet cool

My guess is that those customers were using hot socks or something.

Comfort

Comfort is a huge factor and definitely one of the main components that make a great shoe.

Without comfort, no one is comfortable and everyone is having bad experiences.

After thoroughly checking the online reviews, it’s clear that the majority of people absolutely love them for the comfort factor.

A lot of them say they wear them all day and stay comfortable, and that they were the most comfortable shoes they have ever worn.

Even customers that were complaining about other things still had to chime in and say they were very comfortable.

Durability/Longevity

When I do my reviews, I like to get a general idea about how long they last for most people.

I then put them all together and come up with an average lifespan.

Here’s what I could find

  • 13 months
  • Over a year
  • 3 years
  • 2 years

In fact there are a LOT of complaints about them not even making it to 6 months.

Of course there are many variables like how often they’re worn, what they are used for, how much they’re exposed to the elements, etc.

There are some saying that theirs lasted over a year and up to 3 years.

However, it’s not uncommon to show signs of wear and tear in the first couple of months.

Keep in mind; that’s the first sign of wear and tear, not how long they last.

Based on my findings and the fact that it’s not uncommon to see wear and tear in the first few months, I’m confident enough to say they will last about 6 – 12 months.

Worth it?

Hell yea!

Arch Support

These shoes have amazing arch support, as many customers have said they support their arches very well and there is never any pain, even while walking, jogging and running.

Even those with fallen/low arches say they fit comfortably and did not have any issues.

This is some good news as it’s not everyday you come across a pair of shoes that works for everyone.

Fit Rate

Buying shoes online can be a frustrating task because you don’t know whether or not they’ll fit upon arrival.

However, the best thing you can do is check the “fit rate” for a good rule of thumb to follow.

You’ll know if they have a good chance of fitting or not.

Fortunately the Under Armour Charged Assert 8 has an 85% fit rate, which is some of the most true to size shoes I have seen so far.

In saying that, that is largely because of the wide size options.

Wide Options Available!

Wide feet people are usually left in the dark trying to guess whether or not certain types of shoes will fit them.

However, I have good news.

These shoes are available in wide sizes and allows everyone to experience the benefits they have to offer.

Under Armour have gone all out to ensure they fit everyone properly, and because of that they have just earned an extra star from me.

It seems wide feet people have a rough time finding the perfect sneaker, but with the Charged Assert 8 this is not a problem.

Negative reviews

Throughout this article I have talked a lot about the positive feedback, but now it’s time to talk about the negative things.

Of course with over 6000 reviews on Amazon alone, there’s bound to be someone talking smack.

Lets find out what these are.

Some people say the durability isn’t up to par and that they develop wear and tear within a couple of months.

This seems to be a frustrating problem that people are facing.

But you have to keep in mind that this shoe has literally been purchased thousands and thousands of times.

Not every single one is going to be perfect.

A small percentage will not be as durable as the rest.

There are far more positive feedback than negative, and the durability is still pretty good at this price.

So I have no complaints there.

==> Get them while they’re cheap

Do I Recommend?

These shoes were getting a lot of love from the community and they have known to last a long time.

But I started looking at the negative reviews and everything changed.

Customers find rips and tears within a couple months.

This isn’t completely bad considering they are really cheap.

Most people still get 6 – 12 months out of them, and sometimes more.

The only reason the quality is in question is because most people expect them to last years.

But they forget how much they paid for them.

At the end of the day you get what you pay for.

They are still very comfortable, perform well for most activities, and look great.

For this price you bet your ass I recommend them.

My Final Opinion

There’s nothing wrong with these shoes considering they are cheap as hell.

The prices on Amazon are $40 – $70.

Personally I think they are awesome and definitely worth the price.

I don’t know why some people complain about the quality when it’s not like they paid an arm and a leg for them.

If you want quality, go buy some Air Jordans.

If you want something comfortable, affordable, going to serve you well as you go about your day, these are for you.

And that officially wraps up my Under Armour Charged Assert 8 review.
